Growing older together: changes to mention

Older pets change gradually. Noticing small differences early helps us plan care that keeps them comfortable.

Small changes matter

It’s easy to put slowing down, sleeping more or a change in appetite down to age. Often it is — but these changes are still worth telling us about.

What to look out for

  • Drinking or urinating more than usual.

  • Weight loss or weight gain.

  • Stiffness, or difficulty with stairs or jumping.

  • Changes in behaviour or sleep, or seeming confused at night.

  • New lumps, bumps or changes to the coat.

Making home easier

Soft bedding, non-slip rugs, raised bowls and easy access to favourite spots can all help. Regular check-ins let us adjust care as your pet’s needs change.

This article is general guidance, not a diagnosis. If you’re worried about your pet, please call the practice.
